Before Your Bin Arrives: A Driveway-Safe Delivery Checklist for Collingwood, Wasaga Beach & Stayner

August 14, 20266 min read

Booking a bin rental in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, or Stayner is simple. Preparing the delivery area is what makes the process smooth.

A few minutes of preparation can help prevent delays, protect your driveway, and give the delivery driver enough room to place your bin safely.

Use this checklist before your scheduled delivery.

1. Choose the right bin size

Start by confirming the bin you ordered. The correct size depends on both the volume and weight of your materials.

Household and construction waste bins

Use this simple guide:

  • If you are clearing one room or completing a small renovation, then the 10-yard bin may be enough.

  • If you are renovating a kitchen, basement, or deck, then consider the 14-yard bin.

  • If you are handling a full-home renovation or large property cleanout, then the 20-yard bin gives you more capacity.

  • If your waste is primarily soil, concrete, or asphalt, then request the specialty 8-yard bin, which measures 7' x 14' x 2'.

⚠️ The 8-yard, 7' x 14' x 2' bin is specialty-only. Use it for soil, concrete, or asphalt. Do not mix these materials with household garbage, construction debris, or other waste streams.

If you are unsure which bin fits your project, review our how bin rentals work or call 705-481-7604.

2. Measure the placement area

Measure the space before delivery day. Do not measure only the bin footprint. Leave room for safe placement and access.

Check the available length

Measure from the street or driveway entrance to the garage, retaining wall, fence, parked vehicle, or other obstruction.

Compare your measurements with the bin length:

  • 10-yard: 11 feet long

  • 14-yard: 14 feet long

  • 20-yard: 14 feet long

  • Specialty 8-yard: 14 feet long

Keep extra space near the driveway entrance whenever possible. The delivery truck needs room to approach and position the bin.

Check the available width

Measure between fences, landscaping, retaining walls, parked vehicles, and the edges of the driveway.

The bins are:

  • 7 feet wide for the 10-yard and specialty 8-yard bins

  • 8 feet wide for the 14-yard and 20-yard bins

Remove anything that narrows the path. This includes trailers, boats, construction equipment, and vehicles parked across the driveway.

Check the surface

A flat, stable surface is best. The bin should not sit on soft ground, an unstable shoulder, or an area with a steep slope.

Tell us if your planned placement area has:

  • A steep grade

  • Fresh asphalt or concrete

  • Pavers or interlocking stone

  • A narrow entrance

  • Soft soil or lawn

  • A tight turn

  • Limited truck access

This information helps us plan the delivery properly.

3. Check overhead clearance

Look up before the bin arrives.

Delivery equipment requires overhead clearance. Low branches, wires, signs, awnings, and basketball nets can interfere with placement.

Inspect the full route from the street to the drop-off location. Check for:

  • Low tree branches

  • Hydro and communication wires

  • Covered porches

  • Carports

  • Eavestroughs

  • Light fixtures

  • Low signs

  • Temporary shelters

  • Large umbrellas or canopies

Trim branches or move removable objects before delivery. If you are uncertain about a wire or overhead obstruction, contact us before booking or call 705-481-7604 to confirm the placement.

⚠️ Do not assume a clear driveway means a clear delivery path. The truck and loading equipment need vertical clearance at the point where the bin will be placed.

4. Keep the access route clear

The driver needs to reach your property and place the bin without navigating unnecessary obstacles.

Before delivery:

  • Move vehicles out of the driveway.

  • Remove trailers, lawn equipment, and recreational vehicles.

  • Keep garbage carts away from the delivery area.

  • Move loose tools and materials.

  • Unlock gates if the bin must pass through one.

  • Keep children and pets indoors during delivery.

  • Tell neighbours not to block the entrance.

  • Leave enough room for the truck to manoeuvre.

If you live on a narrow street in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, or Stayner, check whether parked vehicles could restrict access. Winter snowbanks can also reduce the usable width of the driveway.

Nearby customers in Beeton and Tottenham should follow the same preparation steps. We also deliver to other local communities, including Barrie, Alliston, Innisfil, Angus, Lisle, Everett, Mulmur, and surrounding areas. Visit our service area page for more information.

5. Protect the driveway

Our bins are designed for driveway-safe delivery. We use protective wood underneath the bin to help protect asphalt and concrete during placement and pickup.

You should still prepare the surface.

Before delivery

  • Sweep away loose gravel, glass, and sharp debris.

  • Move garden hoses and extension cords.

  • Identify cracks or weak areas in the driveway.

  • Tell us about recently paved or repaired surfaces.

  • Keep sprinklers and irrigation systems away from the placement area.

  • Avoid placing the bin over drainage grates or access covers.

Driveway protection works best when the surface is clear and the bin is placed on a stable area.

✅ Our driveway-safe bins are designed to help prevent damage to asphalt, concrete, and your property. If you have a surface that needs special attention, contact us before delivery so we can review the situation.

6. Plan how you will load the bin

A clear loading plan makes the rental faster and safer.

Our bins have low side walls. Many also allow loading through rear access doors, depending on the bin and setup. Place the bin as close as practical to the work area without blocking necessary access.

Follow these loading rules:

  • Load heavy items first.

  • Spread the weight evenly across the floor.

  • Break down large furniture and bulky materials.

  • Place smaller items around larger pieces.

  • Keep the load below the top of the bin.

  • Keep the load level from end to end.

  • Point sharp objects downward.

  • Keep doors closed when the bin is not being loaded.

  • Use proper lifting techniques or ask for help with heavy materials.

⚠️ NEVER LOAD WASTE ABOVE THE SIDES OF THE BIN. An overfilled bin may be unsafe to transport and may require you to remove material before pickup.

Do not throw hazardous or restricted items into the bin. These may include:

  • Paint, oil, and chemicals

  • Batteries

  • Propane tanks

  • Tires

  • Electronics

  • Refrigerators or other restricted appliances

  • Materials that require separate disposal

If you are disposing of soil, concrete, or asphalt, book the correct specialty service. Do not mix clean fill with general household or construction waste.

7. Understand the price before delivery

Tor Bin Rental offers two main pricing options for standard household and construction waste bins.

Regular pricing

Regular pricing starts at:

  • 10-yard bin:$325

  • 14-yard bin:$325

  • 20-yard bin:$350

The Regular Rate includes up to 1 metric tonne of disposal. Additional disposal is charged at $130 per metric tonne.

Choose Regular pricing if your project contains lighter materials and you expect the load to stay within the included allowance.

All-In pricing

All-In pricing starts at:

  • 10-yard bin:$395

  • 14-yard bin:$460

  • 20-yard bin:$590

The All-In option includes unlimited disposal for eligible materials. It can be a practical choice when the load is difficult to estimate or may become heavy.

⚠️ Pricing is subject to a 5% fuel surcharge, H.S.T., and possible postal-code variation. Confirm the final amount for your address and waste type when booking.

You can view rates and book online 24/7 without a phone call. For questions about placement, materials, or pricing, call 705-481-7604 or use the Tor Bin Rental contact page.
