Removing a concrete walkway? Excavating soil for a foundation? Replacing an asphalt driveway in Collingwood?

You need the right bin.

An 8-yard soil bin rental is built for dense, heavy materials. It is not a smaller version of a regular garbage bin. It is a specialty bin for clean fill disposal, including soil, concrete, and asphalt.

Choosing the correct bin helps you avoid:

  • Overloaded containers

  • Rejected loads

  • Contamination charges

  • Unsafe hauling

  • Damage to your driveway or property

  • Paying for more capacity than your project needs

This guide explains when to book the 8-yard specialty bin, what it costs, what you can load, and when you should choose a larger household or construction waste bin instead.

When Should You Book an 8-Yard Specialty Bin?

Book the 8-yard bin if your project involves one clean stream of heavy material.

Choose the 8-yard bin if you are removing:

  • ✅ Clean soil or excavation spoil

  • ✅ Concrete from slabs, footings, curbs, or walkways

  • ✅ Asphalt from a driveway or path

  • ✅ Similar dense clean fill, subject to confirmation

The 8-yard bin measures 7' wide x 14' long x 2' tall.

Its low profile makes it easier to load with a shovel, wheelbarrow, skid steer, or mini excavator. The shorter walls also make it practical for residential projects with limited access.

Do not choose the 8-yard bin if you have mixed debris

If your project includes soil plus lumber, drywall, garbage, or furniture, then the 8-yard specialty bin is not the right option.

IF your load contains only clean soil, concrete, or asphalt, THEN book the 8-yard specialty bin.

IF your load contains household junk or mixed renovation debris, THEN book a 10-yard, 14-yard, or 20-yard Household & Construction Waste bin.

Review our Services & Pricing options before booking if you are unsure which category applies.

The 8-Yard Bin Is Strictly Specialty-Only

This is the most important rule.

The 8-yard bin is strictly for specialty materials. It is not for household waste or general construction waste.

Allowed materials

Clean soil

You can load:

  • Dirt

  • Topsoil

  • Excavation spoil

  • Clean fill

  • Sod, where accepted and kept free of contaminants

Remove branches, garbage, plastic, and other debris before loading.

Concrete

You can load:

  • Broken concrete slabs

  • Concrete footings

  • Concrete curbs

  • Concrete walkway pieces

Concrete should be clean. Rebar and wire mesh are not accepted. Remove them before loading or contact Tor Bin Rental to confirm your material.

Asphalt

You can load:

  • Broken asphalt driveway pieces

  • Asphalt walkway material

  • Clean asphalt chunks

Keep asphalt separate from household garbage, soil contaminants, wood, and other construction waste unless we confirm otherwise.

Prohibited materials

⚠️ Do not put these materials in the 8-yard specialty bin:

  • Household garbage

  • Furniture or mattresses

  • Cardboard or plastic

  • Wood or lumber

  • Drywall or insulation

  • Roofing shingles

  • Brush, branches, or leaves

  • Appliances or electronics

  • Tires

  • Paint, oil, chemicals, or solvents

  • Batteries or propane tanks

  • Asbestos or other hazardous materials

  • Concrete containing rebar or wire mesh

A contaminated load may be rejected, reclassified, or charged differently. When in doubt, contact us before loading.

Why You Should Not Put Soil in a 20-Yard Bin

Bigger does not always mean better.

Soil, concrete, and asphalt are extremely heavy. A large container can hold far more volume than your truck can safely transport once loaded with dense material.

The 8-yard bin limits the volume of heavy material from the start. That makes it easier to manage:

  • Truck weight

  • Safe loading

  • Disposal requirements

  • Driveway pressure

  • Transport compliance

A 20-yard bin is better for bulky, lower-density waste, such as furniture, drywall, renovation debris, and large household cleanouts.

Do not fill a 10-, 14-, or 20-yard general waste bin with soil, concrete, or asphalt unless Tor Bin Rental confirms that it is suitable for your specific load.

Will the Bin Damage Your Collingwood Driveway?

Our bins are designed for driveway-safe placement. We use equipment and placement methods intended to protect asphalt, concrete, and other property surfaces.

You still need to prepare the delivery area.

Before delivery:

  • Clear vehicles, trailers, tools, and other obstructions.

  • Confirm the truck has enough approach space.

  • Check for low branches and overhead wires.

  • Mark underground or fragile features where necessary.

  • Tell us if the driveway has soft, cracked, or recently paved areas.

  • Do not place the bin where it blocks emergency access.

A full clean-fill bin is very heavy. Driveway-safe equipment helps reduce surface damage, but the underlying condition of your driveway and the selected placement area still matter.

If the bin must sit on a street, boulevard, sidewalk, or other public right-of-way, check permit requirements with the Town of Collingwood before delivery. Collingwood’s Frequently Requested By-laws page includes information about refuse, property standards, parking, and public areas.

Common Questions About 8-Yard Soil Bin Rental

Can I mix soil and concrete?

Contact us first. Specialty pricing depends on the material category and disposal requirements. Do not assume mixed material is accepted.

Can I put a small amount of garbage in the bin?

No. The 8-yard bin is not for household or construction waste. Even a small amount of contamination can affect how the load is handled.

Is the 8-yard bin suitable for a full driveway replacement?

It may be suitable for a portion of the asphalt, depending on the total weight and project size. For a large removal, you may need multiple bins or a different hauling plan. Confirm the quantity before booking.

What if I am renovating and removing soil at the same time?

Use separate waste streams. Book the 8-yard specialty bin for clean fill and a separate Household & Construction Waste bin for wood, drywall, flooring, garbage, and other renovation materials.
