Downsizing a long-owned family home in Angus can feel overwhelming.
Decades of furniture. Packed closets. A full basement. Old tools. Boxes nobody has opened in years.
The easiest way to control the cleanout is to make decisions before you book a garbage bin rental in Angus.
Sort first. Choose the right bin second. Load it properly. You will save space, avoid unnecessary disposal costs, and reduce the risk of needing a second rental.
Start With Four Sorting Categories
Do not begin by throwing everything into one pile.
Set up four clear categories in each room:
Keep: items moving to your new home.
Donate: clean, usable furniture, clothing, dishes, and household goods.
Sell: items with enough value to justify listing or hosting a sale.
Toss: broken, damaged, outdated, or unusable items.
Use labels, coloured tape, or separate areas of the room.
Make the decision before the bin arrives. Otherwise, valuable items can disappear under unwanted junk. You may also fill the bin before you have finished sorting.
Why Sorting Saves Bin Space
A mixed “everything goes in” load fills faster.
It also costs more when:
Usable furniture takes up bin volume.
Heavy materials are mixed with household junk.
Boxes are left full instead of being broken down.
Large items are loaded without being disassembled.
You use an All-In rate when donation and resale could reduce the load.
✅ Donate and sell first. Then book the bin for what truly needs disposal.

Plan the Room Order Before You Book
A downsizing cleanout works best when you move from low-emotion, high-volume areas to the rooms you use every day.
Recommended Room-by-Room Order
This order keeps your main living areas functional. It also gives you a better estimate of the final disposal volume before you book.

When You Need One Bin
Choose one Household & Construction Waste bin if the cleanout consists mainly of:
Furniture
Household junk
Broken toys
Mattresses
Clothing that cannot be donated
Carpet and flooring
Drywall
Wood
General renovation debris
Miscellaneous non-hazardous waste
Use This If/Then Guide
If you are clearing one bedroom, a small storage area, or a limited amount of furniture, then choose a 10-yard bin.
If you are clearing several rooms, a garage, or a basement, then choose a 14-yard bin.
If you are clearing most or all of the family home, then choose a 20-yard bin.
A full downsizing project often includes bulky furniture. That makes a 20-yard bin the safer choice, even if the material is not especially heavy.
The extra height gives you room for sofas, cabinets, tables, and boxes. You still need to load carefully and stay below the rails.
When You Need Two Bins
You may need two bins if the home cleanout includes both:
Household junk and ordinary construction waste.
Soil, concrete, or asphalt from a basement, patio, walkway, or garden wall.
Book the bins for the same project window. Tell us at booking that you need separate disposal categories.
Bin One: Household and Construction Waste
Use a 10-yard, 14-yard, or 20-yard bin for the household portion of the cleanout.
This bin can handle the unwanted contents of the home, along with permitted renovation materials.
Bin Two: The 8-Yard Specialty Bin
Use the 8-yard specialty bin for:
Clean soil
Concrete
Asphalt
It is sized for heavy material. It is only 7' wide × 14' long × 2' tall.
It works well when you are also removing:
A basement slab
A concrete patio
Asphalt from a walkway or driveway
Soil from a garden wall
Heavy clean fill from excavation
⚠️ NEVER put household or construction waste in the 8-yard specialty bin.
Do not add:
Furniture
Mattresses
Wood
Drywall
Shingles
Household garbage
Brush
Mixed renovation debris
The 8-yard bin is not a smaller general garbage bin. It is for specialty disposal only. Using it for the wrong material can result in removal delays, rejected loads, or additional charges.

Current Angus Bin Rental Pricing
The following are starting rates. Final pricing varies by postal code and is subject to H.S.T. plus the 5% fuel surcharge.
Household and Construction Waste
What the Rates Include
Regular Rate: 7-day rental, delivery, pickup, and up to 1 metric tonne of disposal.
Extra weight on the Regular Rate: $130 per metric tonne.
All-In Rate: unlimited disposal for the permitted material category.
Choose Regular if your load is lighter and predictable.
Choose All-In if you expect a large, dense, or difficult-to-estimate cleanout. The All-In Rate can reduce uncertainty, but it does not allow prohibited materials or mixed specialty loads.
Other Disposal Categories
10-yard shingles:$200 + $110 per tonne
14-yard brush:$200 + $110 per tonne
20-yard brush:$200 + $110 per tonne
8-yard soil:$300
8-yard concrete or asphalt:$350
Shingles, brush, soil, concrete, and asphalt require the correct disposal category. Do not combine them with a household cleanout unless the material is permitted for that bin.

Protect Your Angus Driveway
Your driveway matters during a downsizing project.
A bin may sit in place for several days. It may also be loaded with heavy furniture, flooring, and other dense items.
Tor Bin Rental provides driveway-safe bins designed for placement on asphalt, concrete, and residential property.
Before delivery:
Clear vehicles from the drop-off area.
Remove low branches and obstacles.
Keep the access route open.
Tell us about narrow entrances or tight turns.
Choose a flat, stable placement area.
✅ Our driveway-safe placement helps protect your asphalt, concrete, and property from damage.
Review the Angus service area page for local delivery information.

Load the Bin Flat and Evenly
A safe load is a level load.
Distribute material across the full floor area. Do not build a tall pile at one end.
Follow These Loading Rules
Place flat boards, flooring, and panels along the bottom.
Break down tables, bed frames, and shelving when possible.
Put boxes inside hollow furniture to save space.
Spread heavy items across the bin.
Keep the load below the top rails.
Do not allow material to hang over the sides.
Do not throw heavy concrete or soil into a household bin.
Keep doors, walkways, and access points clear while loading.
➡️ NOTHING ABOVE THE RAILS.
An overloaded bin may be unsafe to transport. It may also need to be reloaded before pickup.
Keep Prohibited Items Out
Do not place hazardous materials in the bin, including:
Paint
Oil
Chemicals
Batteries
Asbestos
Tires
Electronics
Appliances
If you are unsure about an item, check the Tor Bin Rental FAQ before loading it.
