Replacing a hot tub? Clearing out a deep freezer? Removing an old sofa, treadmill, mattress, or other oversized household item?
A bin can make the cleanup much easier in Angus. But bulky items need preparation. Some materials need a specialty bin. Some appliances require confirmation before loading.
The most important rule is simple:
Everything must fit inside the bin and sit below the rails. Never load above the sides.
This guide explains what fits, how to prepare large items, and which Angus bin is right for your project.
For current options, visit the Tor Bin Rental Services & Pricing page.
What fits in a household and construction waste bin?
Your household and construction waste bin is suitable for bulky, mixed items such as:
Sofas and couches
Furniture
Cabinets
Mattresses and box springs, when properly stripped and broken down
Treadmills and exercise equipment, subject to confirmation
Renovation debris
Wood, drywall, and insulation
Household cleanout material
Hot tub shells and components, once properly dismantled and confirmed before booking
Use this quick guide:
If the item is bulky but relatively light, then a 14-yard or 20-yard bin may be the best fit.
If the item is a single sofa, small cleanout, or dismantled hot tub shell, then a 10-yard bin may work.
If the item contains refrigerant, chemicals, batteries, or other restricted materials, then contact Tor Bin Rental before loading.
If the load includes concrete, soil, asphalt, sand, or heavy tile, then do not use a household waste bin. Book the specialty 8-yard option instead.
Important appliance note
Tor Bin Rental’s service information lists appliances and electronics among prohibited materials. That means you should not automatically place a deep freezer, treadmill motor, pump, heater, or other appliance component in a bin.
Email info@torbinrental.ca or call 705-481-7604 before booking if your cleanup includes these items. We can help confirm what is accepted and which disposal category applies.
How to prepare a hot tub for a bin
An intact hot tub is too large and awkward for a standard bin. Prepare it in stages.
1. Disconnect the power and water
Before dismantling anything:
Turn off the power at the breaker.
Have hard-wired electrical connections disconnected safely.
Shut off and disconnect water lines.
Clear a safe path from the hot tub to the bin.
Do not cut into a powered hot tub or work around live wiring.
2. Drain the tub completely
Drain all water before removal. Keep the water away from your foundation, neighbouring properties, and areas where it could cause erosion.
Also remove:
Remaining chemicals
Filters
Loose plumbing
Standing water in the lines
Any debris inside the shell
A wet hot tub creates unnecessary weight and makes the shell harder to handle.
3. Remove the pump, heater, and control components
Take out the pump, heater, control box, accessible wiring, and other mechanical components before cutting the shell.
Set these materials aside. They may be treated as appliances, electronics, or recyclable components. Confirm acceptance with Tor Bin Rental before putting them in the bin.
4. Cut the spa shell into manageable pieces
Do not try to place the full shell into a bin.
After draining and removing the equipment:
Remove the cabinet panels.
Cut the shell into sections.
Break large pieces down so they can be carried safely.
Cut the hot tub cover into smaller sections.
Keep every piece below the bin rails.
Wear eye, hand, and respiratory protection while cutting.
If the shell remains oversized, it is not ready to load.

Deep freezer disposal in Angus
A deep freezer is bulky, but its refrigerant makes it different from ordinary household junk.
Before arranging disposal:
Empty all food and contents.
Defrost the freezer completely.
Clean and dry the interior.
Remove the door or secure it safely.
Do not puncture, cut, or damage refrigerant lines.
Confirm whether the refrigerant must be professionally recovered.
Ask Tor Bin Rental whether the freezer is accepted in your selected bin.
Do not load a deep freezer unless acceptance has been confirmed. Appliances are not automatically included with standard household and construction waste.
If you have a freezer, refrigerator, air conditioner, or other refrigerant-containing item in Angus, contact info@torbinrental.ca before booking.
Old sofa, mattress, and box spring loading
Sofas are usually easier to handle than hot tubs, but they still take up a lot of space.
Prepare an old sofa by:
Removing cushions.
Taking off detachable legs.
Removing loose fabric where practical.
Separating recliner mechanisms if possible.
Cutting or breaking the frame down when the sofa is too large.
Loading the heavy frame pieces first.
A full sofa should not be forced into a bin if it reaches above the rails.
Mattresses and springs
Mattresses and box springs must be stripped and reduced when needed. Do not assume that an intact mattress or spring unit can be loaded safely.
Before loading:
Remove bedding and loose materials.
Strip mattresses and springs down as required.
Break down oversized frames.
Keep long pieces flat.
Do not allow metal springs or furniture parts to project above the bin.
The same rule applies to sectional couches, bed frames, wardrobes, and other oversized furniture.
What about a treadmill?
A treadmill may fit in a larger bin after it has been disassembled.
Break it down into:
Walking belt and deck
Uprights and handrails
Base frame
Motor housing
Console
Power cord
However, the motor, console, wiring, batteries, and electronic parts may be restricted. Confirm with Tor Bin Rental before loading treadmill components.
If the treadmill is still assembled, it can waste a large amount of bin space and may sit above the rails. Take it apart first.
Keep concrete, sand, tile, and footings out of a household bin
Bulky household items are not the same as heavy construction materials.
Do not mix these materials into a regular household waste bin:
Concrete footings
Broken slabs
Sand
Soil
Asphalt
Heavy masonry
Large quantities of tile
Excavation spoil
These materials can exceed the safe weight allowance quickly. They belong in a specialty 8-yard bin.
8-yard specialty bin
The 8-yard bin measures 7' wide × 14' long × 2' tall.
It is available for:
Soil: $300
Concrete: $350
Asphalt: $350
The 8-yard bin is specialty-only. It is never for household waste or construction waste.
If your Angus cleanup includes a hot tub plus concrete footings, separate the materials. Use the regular household and construction waste bin for approved bulky debris, and the specialty 8-yard bin for concrete, soil, or asphalt.
Load the bin in the right order
Good loading saves space and helps prevent unsafe shifting.
Use this order:
Load flat, heavy approved items first.
Place furniture frames and broken-down bulky items next.
Fill gaps with smaller pieces.
Add lightweight materials such as foam, cushions, and cover pieces last.
Keep sharp edges pointed down or secured.
Leave the load level.
Stop before the material reaches the rails.
⚠️ NEVER LOAD ABOVE THE RAILS.
An overfilled bin may be unsafe to transport. The driver may need to leave it behind or require material to be removed before pickup.
