Landscaping on a rural Lisle property can create more waste than expected.
You may remove:
Topsoil
Clay
Sod
Gravel
Concrete
Asphalt
Brush
Roots
Old landscape materials
Household or construction debris
The challenge is keeping those materials separated. Soil, sod and clean fill do not always follow the same disposal route. If you mix everything together, you can lose access to specialty pricing and move into a more expensive household and construction waste category.
This guide explains how to plan a bin rental in Lisle, protect a gravel lane or driveway, and choose the right bin for your project.
Quick answer: where should your landscaping material go?
Use this simple rule:
If you have clean soil or clean fill only, then book an 8-yard soil bin.
If you have clean concrete only, then book an 8-yard concrete bin.
If you have clean asphalt only, then book an 8-yard asphalt bin.
If you have sod, grass, roots or organics, then keep them separate and contact us to confirm the correct disposal category.
If you have soil mixed with household junk, lumber, drywall or renovation debris, then book a household and construction waste bin.
If you have branches, shrubs or brush, then choose a 14-yard or 20-yard brush bin.
⚠️ The 8-yard bin is ONLY for specialty disposal: soil, concrete or asphalt. It is NOT for household waste or construction waste.
Do not use an 8-yard specialty bin as a general cleanup bin. Mixing materials can result in the load being treated differently at disposal.
Why clean soil must stay separate from topsoil, sod and organics
“Clean fill” generally means natural material such as soil, clay, sand and similar excavation material. It must be free from garbage and other waste.
Topsoil is still soil, but rural landscaping projects often create mixed piles. You may have:
Clean subsoil from grading
Topsoil from a garden bed
Sod with grass and roots
Leaves and grass clippings
Branches and brush
Landscape fabric
Plastic edging
Concrete or asphalt pieces
Keep these materials in separate piles before the bin arrives.
Use separate piles
Pile A: Clean soil and approved clean fill
Pile B: Sod, grass, roots and other organics
Pile C: Brush and branches
Pile D: Concrete or asphalt
Pile E: Household and construction waste
Sod can contain soil, roots, grass and organic material. Its acceptance can depend on the disposal facility and the specific load. Contact Tor Bin Rental before placing sod in an 8-yard soil bin.
If your sod is not accepted as clean fill, it may need to go in a yard waste or mixed waste bin instead.
Why you should never mix household junk into a soil bin
An old fence board, plastic bag or broken patio chair may seem minor beside a large soil pile. It still changes the load.
The 8-yard specialty bin is not designed for:
Household garbage
Furniture
Mattresses
Lumber
Drywall
Insulation
Roofing shingles
Plastic
Cardboard
Landscape fabric
Brush
Branches
Mixed renovation debris
Paint, oil, chemicals or other hazardous materials
When clean fill is mixed with junk, it is no longer a clean, single-material load. The disposal category, handling requirements and price can change.
If your landscaping project includes old materials from a shed, garage, fence or renovation, then separate the clean soil and book the correct waste bin for the rest.
Read the clean fill and specialty bin FAQ if you are unsure about a specific item.

What if your clean fill gets mixed with junk?
For mixed household and construction waste, the July 2026 starting rates are:
The Regular Rate includes:
7-day rental
Delivery
Pickup
Up to 1 metric tonne of disposal
Additional weight is $130 per metric tonne.
The All-In Rate is the better choice when you expect a heavier or unpredictable load and want unlimited disposal for accepted material under the booked category.
How much does one metric tonne of soil look like?
A metric tonne is 1,000 kilograms. Soil is heavy, especially when wet.
As a practical estimate:
One metric tonne of loose soil may occupy about 0.7 to 1.1 cubic yards.
Dense clay or wet soil can reach one tonne in even less space.
This may be only 8 to 12 full wheelbarrow loads, depending on the wheelbarrow and moisture.
A full 10-yard bin of soil can weigh far more than one tonne.
That last point matters. The 1-tonne allowance applies to Regular household and construction waste rates. It is not a reason to load a large mixed-waste bin full of soil.
If your bin contains mostly soil, then choose the specialty 8-yard soil option instead of trying to use a larger general waste bin.
Placing a bin on a gravel lane or rural driveway
Lisle properties often have long gravel lanes, soft shoulders and narrow access points. A driveway-safe bin helps protect asphalt, concrete and property surfaces, but the delivery area still needs to be suitable for a heavy truck.
Before delivery:
Choose a level, firm placement area.
Compact loose gravel where possible.
Avoid soft shoulders, wet ground and steep slopes.
Keep the truck route clear of trailers, vehicles and equipment.
Trim or identify low branches.
Check gates and narrow turns.
Keep children and pets away from the delivery area.
Tell us about tight access, soft ground or unusual placement conditions.
The 8-yard bin is 7' wide and 14' long. Measure the intended location before booking.
For a gravel lane, place the bin on a stable section with enough room for the truck to approach and leave safely. Do not assume that a long lane automatically means easy access. A narrow bridge, low branch or soft shoulder can affect delivery.

A practical example for a Lisle property
Imagine you are reshaping a rural side yard.
You remove:
5 cubic yards of clean soil
2 cubic yards of sod
Several branches
An old wooden garden border
A broken plastic storage bin
Do not load everything together.
Instead:
Keep the clean soil in a dedicated pile.
Separate the sod and confirm its disposal category.
Place branches in a brush pile.
Put the wood and plastic with household or construction waste.
Book the correct bin for each material stream.
This approach protects your clean-fill pricing and prevents an avoidable contamination issue.
