Ripping Out a Concrete Patio in Angus? Rent an 8-Yard Bin and Skip the Trailer Rentals

Removing an old concrete patio in Angus can quickly become a hauling problem.

The slab may be only a few inches thick. But once it is broken into chunks, concrete becomes extremely heavy. Loading it into a pickup truck or arranging repeated trailer rentals can slow your project, damage your driveway, and create extra disposal trips.

For many small patio, walkway, and concrete removal projects, an 8-yard specialty bin is the simpler solution.

It is built for heavy materials such as concrete, soil, and asphalt. Tor Bin Rental delivers driveway-safe bins across Angus and nearby communities. You can book online without making phone calls, choose your rental dates, and arrange pickup when the work is complete.

First, choose the correct bin for your material

The most important rule is material separation.

Use the 8-yard bin if:

  • You are removing clean broken concrete

  • You are disposing of clean soil or excavation material

  • You are removing clean asphalt from a driveway or walkway

  • You can keep the load separate from household and construction waste

  • Your material does not contain rebar or other prohibited items

Do not use the 8-yard bin for:

  • Household garbage

  • Mixed construction debris

  • Wood or lumber

  • Drywall

  • Insulation

  • Shingles

  • Furniture

  • Brush or yard waste

  • Hazardous materials

  • General renovation debris

⚠️ The 8-yard bin is strictly for specialty disposal. It is not a general-purpose construction bin.

If your Angus project includes concrete plus lumber, drywall, packaging, or household junk, use separate bins or contact Tor Bin Rental before booking. Read the related guide to the 8-yard specialty bin rule for concrete, soil, and asphalt.

8-yard concrete bin specifications

The 8-yard specialty bin is designed to keep heavy loads manageable.

  • Dimensions: 7' wide x 14' long x 2' tall

  • 8-yard Concrete/Asphalt rate: $350

  • 8-yard Soil rate: $300

  • Intended for clean concrete, soil, or asphalt only

  • Driveway-safe placement

  • Suitable for residential and small project sites

The shallow height helps with loading. You can move broken concrete using a wheelbarrow instead of lifting material over the side of a taller bin.

The 7' x 14' footprint also provides space for a controlled load while helping prevent excessive overloading. Concrete is dense, so the goal is not simply to fill the bin to the top. Load it safely and keep the material level.

July 2026 pricing for other Angus bin rentals

If your project involves mixed construction waste, the 8-yard bin is not the right product. Choose a standard construction bin instead.

These are the current July 2026 listed rates. Prices vary by postal code and are subject to H.S.T. A 5% fuel surcharge applies.

Regular Rate

The Regular Rate includes:

  • 7-day rental

  • Delivery

  • Pickup

  • Up to 1 metric tonne of disposal

  • $130 per additional metric tonne

Choose the Regular Rate if you have a reliable estimate of the material weight and want a lower starting price.

All-In Rate

The All-In Rate includes unlimited disposal for the selected rental.

Choose All-In if:

  • You are completing a larger renovation

  • Several workers will use the bin

  • Your debris weight is difficult to estimate

  • You want more predictable disposal costs

  • You are removing mixed construction materials

How to remove a concrete patio in Angus

Concrete demolition is physically demanding. Plan the work before you start.

1. Inspect the patio

Check the slab before renting tools or scheduling delivery.

Look for:

  • Concrete thickness

  • Cracks or expansion joints

  • Reinforcing mesh

  • Rebar

  • Nearby steps, walls, fences, and landscaping

  • Buried utility lines

  • Drainage features or downspouts

A typical patio may be several inches thick. Older slabs can be thicker or reinforced. Reinforced concrete takes more time to cut and remove.

If you find rebar, wire mesh, footings, or unusually thick concrete, contact a demolition professional or Tor Bin Rental before booking the bin.

2. Prepare the work area

Clear the patio and create a safe path to the bin location.

You may need:

  • Safety glasses or a face shield

  • Hearing protection

  • Heavy work gloves

  • Steel-toe boots

  • Dust protection suitable for concrete work

  • Sledgehammer

  • Pry bar

  • Wheelbarrow

  • Electric jackhammer

  • Concrete saw or grinder

  • Bolt cutters or a metal-cutting tool

⚠️ Concrete creates sharp fragments and dust. Keep children, pets, and bystanders away from the demolition zone.

3. Break the slab from an exposed edge

Start at a corner or exposed edge. Do not begin in the centre if the edge is accessible.

Work inward and break the concrete into pieces that one person can safely move. Smaller pieces are easier to place in a wheelbarrow and distribute inside the bin.

For thicker concrete, a rented jackhammer may be more efficient than a sledgehammer. Use controlled movements. Avoid striking near gas lines, water lines, electrical conduits, or structures that must remain in place.

4. Separate steel and other materials

Keep the concrete load clean.

Remove:

  • Rebar

  • Wire mesh

  • Wood forms

  • Plastic

  • Soil

  • Garbage

  • Other mixed debris

The 8-yard specialty bin is for clean concrete, soil, or asphalt. Do not use it as a mixed-load container.

If your patio includes a wood deck frame, landscaping waste, broken fence boards, or general renovation debris, place those materials in the correct waste stream instead.

5. Load the bin evenly

Bring broken concrete to the bin with a wheelbarrow. Place heavy pieces across the floor instead of piling everything at one end.

Follow these rules:

  • Load below the top edge

  • Keep the material level

  • Spread heavy debris evenly

  • Do not build a mound above the rim

  • Do not leave concrete beside the bin

  • Keep the truck access route clear

  • Never overload the container

⚠️ DO NOT LOAD ABOVE THE TOP EDGE. An unsafe load may need to be corrected before pickup.

Why rent a bin instead of a trailer?

A trailer may look convenient. But concrete creates several problems.

Trailer rentals require more coordination

You may need to:

  • Pick up and return the trailer

  • Arrange a suitable tow vehicle

  • Make multiple trips

  • Find a disposal facility that accepts concrete

  • Pay separate tipping or disposal charges

  • Cover the trailer during storage

  • Load and unload the material yourself

A bin keeps the disposal container at your Angus property while you work.

A bin reduces repeated hauling

With an 8-yard specialty bin, you can demolish the patio over several hours or days. The container remains on site until pickup.

You do not have to:

  • Transport loose concrete through town

  • Clean concrete dust out of a trailer

  • Schedule multiple disposal runs

  • Find temporary storage for broken slab pieces

Tor Bin Rental handles delivery and pickup. You handle the demolition and loading.

Protect your Angus driveway during delivery

Concrete demolition is hard enough without worrying about property damage.

Tor Bin Rental uses driveway-safe delivery practices designed to help protect asphalt, concrete, and other surfaces. Before delivery:

  • Move vehicles from the placement area

  • Clear tools and materials

  • Keep the approach accessible

  • Avoid overhead branches and wires

  • Identify soft ground or drainage areas

  • Tell us about gates, narrow access, or tight turns

  • Keep the bin location away from entrances and emergency access

Driveway-safe equipment helps reduce risk, but placement still matters. The truck needs a clear route and a stable area for the bin.
