Shed Tear-Down in Stayner: Load Old Wood, Shingles & Concrete Without a Second Bin

September 18, 20266 min read

Tearing down an old shed in Stayner? The demolition is usually the easy part.

The cleanup gets complicated when you have:

  • Pressure-treated lumber

  • Untreated wood and plywood

  • Asphalt shingles

  • Nails and metal hardware

  • Broken concrete from the shed pad

  • Soil, roots, or mixed debris

The key is to sort the heavy material from the general construction waste before you book.

Do it correctly and you can handle the wood and shingles in one practical bin. Mix everything together and you may pay for extra weight, sorting, or the wrong disposal category.

Here is the simplest way to plan your shed tear-down cleanup.

Start With the Waste Categories

Before you swing the first hammer, separate the project into three piles.

1. Wood and mixed shed debris

This includes:

  • Untreated lumber

  • Pressure-treated posts and framing

  • Plywood and OSB

  • Painted wood

  • Doors and trim

  • Insulation

  • Nails and metal hardware

  • Small amounts of plastic or non-hazardous debris

These materials belong in a household and construction waste bin.

Pressure-treated wood should not be burned. Keep it with your construction debris and load it safely into a general waste bin.

2. Asphalt shingles

Keep shingles separate from loose household debris whenever possible.

Shingles are heavy. They also take up less space when bagged or bundled. Use durable bags or manageable bundles so they do not scatter around your driveway or jobsite.

For a dedicated roofing load, Tor Bin Rental offers a 10-yard shingles bin.

3. Concrete from the pad

Concrete is the category that causes the most confusion.

A concrete pad should not be placed in a household and construction waste bin. Concrete is dense and can quickly push a regular bin over its included weight allowance.

Book a dedicated specialty bin instead.

⚠️ The 8-yard bin is strictly for specialty disposal. It is for soil, concrete, or asphalt only. It is not for wood, shingles, household garbage, or general construction waste.

The Best Shed Cleanup Plan for Stayner

If your shed contains wood, shingles, and a concrete pad, use this loading plan:

Step 1: Remove hazardous or restricted items

Before loading, pull out anything that should not go into a regular bin.

Keep these items separate:

  • Paint and liquid chemicals

  • Solvents and adhesives

  • Propane tanks

  • Batteries

  • Fluorescent bulbs

  • Tires

  • Electronics

  • Oil or automotive fluids

  • Asbestos-containing materials

⚠️ Never place asbestos or hazardous waste in a standard bin. Contact the appropriate disposal facility before starting if your old shed contains suspect insulation, siding, roofing, or fireproofing material.

Step 2: Load the general construction bin

Place wood into a 14-yard or 20-yard household and construction waste bin.

Load long pieces flat whenever possible. Stack heavier boards on the bottom. Keep the material below the top edge of the bin.

Cut very long boards down if needed. This makes the load safer and prevents pieces from sticking out during transport.

Step 3: Bag or bundle the shingles

Place shingles into bags or manageable bundles. Load them carefully into the same general construction bin if you are using one bin for the wood and roofing debris.

Do not overfill the bin with shingles. They are much heavier than they look.

If you have a large roofing pile, book a dedicated shingles bin instead.

Step 4: Handle the concrete pad separately

Break the concrete into manageable pieces. Remove loose soil where possible. Keep the concrete free of wood, garbage, plastic, and other debris.

Then book an 8-yard concrete specialty bin if you need Tor Bin Rental to remove it.

This approach avoids mixing heavy concrete with your lighter demolition waste.

Which Bin Should You Book?

Option A: One 14-yard bin for wood and shingles

Choose the 14-yard bin if your shed is a smaller structure and most of the waste is wood, shingles, trim, and general construction debris.

  • Dimensions: 8' x 14' x 3.5'

  • Regular Rate: $325 starting rate

  • All-In Rate: $460 starting rate

The Regular Rate includes:

  • 7-day rental

  • Delivery

  • Pickup

  • Up to 1 metric tonne of disposal

Additional weight is $130 per metric tonne.

The All-In Rate is the better choice when you want unlimited disposal and do not want to estimate the final weight of a mixed demolition load.

Option B: One 20-yard bin for a larger shed

Choose the 20-yard bin if the shed has a full floor system, substantial framing, multiple walls, or a large amount of roofing material.

  • Dimensions: 8' x 14' x 5'

  • Regular Rate: $350 starting rate

  • All-In Rate: $590 starting rate

The same Regular Rate terms apply:

  • 7-day rental

  • Delivery and pickup included

  • Up to 1 metric tonne of disposal

  • $130 per additional metric tonne

Use the All-In Rate if your load will include a lot of shingles, treated lumber, or dense demolition debris.

Option C: A dedicated 10-yard shingles bin

Choose the 10-yard shingles bin if the roof is the main part of your cleanup or you want to keep roofing material separate.

  • Dimensions: 7' x 11' x 3.5'

  • Starting price: $200

  • Disposal: $110 per tonne

This bin is designed for shingles and related roofing material. Keep household garbage, wood, and concrete out of it unless Tor Bin Rental confirms otherwise.

Option D: An 8-yard concrete bin

Choose the 8-yard specialty bin for a clean concrete pad.

  • Dimensions: 7' x 14' x 2'

  • Concrete or asphalt starting price: $350

  • Soil starting price: $300

⚠️ Do not use this bin for your shed wood or mixed construction debris. It is only for specialty disposal materials such as concrete, soil, or asphalt.

Can You Finish the Project With Only One Bin?

Yes, if the waste is limited to wood, shingles, and light construction debris.

Book one 14-yard or 20-yard household and construction waste bin. Load the wood flat. Bag the shingles. Keep everything below the fill line.

The concrete pad is the exception.

If you need the concrete hauled away, do not place it in the general bin. You will need to either:

  • Self-haul the clean concrete to an approved disposal facility, or

  • Book a separate 8-yard concrete specialty bin

That is still more efficient than renting a second general waste bin or paying for a contaminated mixed load.

Booking, Delivery, Loading and Pickup

Use Tor Bin Rental’s Services & Pricing page to compare bin types and current starting rates.

You can also book your bin online 24/7 without waiting for a phone call.

Choose your material category carefully:

  • Household and construction waste for wood and mixed shed debris

  • Shingles for a dedicated roofing load

  • Concrete, soil, or asphalt for the 8-yard specialty bin

2. Prepare the delivery area

Clear the driveway or placement area before delivery.

Tor Bin Rental uses driveway-safe equipment and protective boards to help prevent damage to asphalt, concrete, and other surfaces.

Leave enough room for the truck to access the property and position the bin safely.

3. Load in layers

Use this order:

  1. Heavy wood and framing pieces

  2. Flat plywood and panels

  3. Bagged shingles

  4. Smaller construction debris on top

Keep the load level with the top of the bin. Do not leave lumber, roofing, or other material sticking over the sides.

4. Arrange pickup or an extension

The Regular Rate includes a 7-day rental. If the tear-down takes longer, request an extension before the pickup date.

Early pickup is also available if you finish sooner.
